Join this spring in Walthamstow for an immersive weekend of landscape painting (en plein air) in oils.
Working directly from the living landscape, the workshop will explore how to make compositional decisions, help you develop a deeper understanding of colour in nature and respond to the fleeting effects of light and weather. Using traditional oil painting techniques, participants will work from direct observation, learning how to respond to changing light and colour while building clear, harmonious landscape paintings.
Short, practical demonstrations will introduce key approaches to close observation, harmonious colour mixing, and confident mark-making. The focus is on sharpening the eye, connecting to the landscape, and developing a responsive painting process that reflects the energy of the season.
There will be plenty of supported outdoor working time, with thoughtful one-to-one guidance tailored to individual experience, interests, and goals.
Suitable for all levels — from beginners wanting to build confidence painting outdoors, to more experienced artists looking to deepen and refine their plein air oil painting practice.
All materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you like. Please wear weather appropriate clothing that you don’t mind if they get a bit of paint on and please bring a packed lunch, snacks and thermoses of tea or coffee to keep you going if you need it!
